Scotland’s Andy Irvine put in a superb performance against a combined King Country and Wanganui side at Taumarunui. The fullback pushed in a Lions record five tries in the 60-9 win.

The win kept the Lions perfect to start the tour but it was ultimately a long tour for the side as they lost the Test series with the All Blacks 3-1.

But nothing can be taken away from the Scottish international for his performance that day. He ended his career with 51 caps for Scotland and 9 with the Lions. He is considered by many to be Scotland’s best fullback in history.
